A little bit too much

I get what you are going for, and although this is a rather powerful submission with a lot of energy; the drums/ bass in this song are way too clippy :(
The melodies are generally good but a bit repetitive, and the drum patterns seem to have wayyy to much kick drum going on epescially @ 1:20 on.

The mixing mastering of this piece is pretty underdone, but with the right changes i'm sure this could be quite a great song

Things to look at:
- The Intro instrument is way too loud, and a bit pitchy
- The drums/ bass seriously need work before this can really be considered a real drum & bass song
- Try to space out your bass melodies a bit more, and make them work with your drums rather than against them

Overall a good effort, but it needs some work

I agree with you (and anyone) that says the mixing needs to be reworked. That probably will be retooled at a later point

As for the drums, the bass, and the melody. None of that is going to change. I prefer very little movement among my parts rhythmically. Your preference might be that, but I like to have a more ambient and drawn out feel. And in no way can I see how the bass and drums are working against each other, if they were intentionally written that way.

While I respect the first half your review, the rest of it is just compositional preference.

an interesting start

This song is interesting, but I do feel that it could use some major work;

This song seems to jump from one rhythm to another rather randomly, and doesn't really stay within any specific note scale. You would do really well to start with a strong, driving, definitive bassline/ drum pattern.

I had a pretty hard time following the beat of this song to be honest with you; I didn't really dig any of the major patterns produced here.

My guess is that you are slighty new to the music writing game, and there's nothing wrong with that if you are.

My suggestions for you:
- Tutorials could really help you hone your style; they can also teach you almost anything you want to know about your music creating software
- Learn some note scales that you like the sound of, and try writing your phrases within that scale
- Find a nice groove that you can dig, and work from the ground up with your songs; let the drums/bass guide things a little more often
- Try to make things a bit less repetitive

Overall, good effort just keep at it

Thank you very much for your input. Yes I am very new to music writing and I even felt myself doing things at random, and I did. I tried to not make it so repetitive but I guess that didn't work out :/.

Thanks alot for the tips!

Chill from the start

I really love the chill guitar tone, and overall ambiance of this piece. The orchestral instruments are also a great touch, I really loved the sound of just about all of these; except for some of the percussion instruments.

The classical elements of this composition really showed through, and I really enjoyed the mixing of your instruments as well; very soft and clean. :D

Things to look at:
- I felt like the drums/ percussive instruments in this song could have used a bit more power behind them
- The horn samples used in this song were rather plain, and kind of fake sounding
- Your crash sample in this song really bugged me a lot; I would definitely change that

Overall, not a bad submission by any means.
Actually quite nice :)

I want to thank you for giving some of you time to give my work a very wonderful review. I read all of your suggestions and rest assured that I will take it all into my consideration.

I am glad that you liked it! Thank you so much!

Very old school composition.

This song reminds me of something that you would hear on an ancient vinyl hidden away in your grandmothers attic; At the same time though, this song is oddly beautiful.

The piano dynamics are brilliant, and the composition style is seriously unique. It seems that very few people can write music like this nowadays. You have put together quite an amazing piece here my friend, and I really can't wait to hear your next one; you have some real talent wit the keys :}

Overall; amazing piece of art

Thanks for the very kind words! Though I dunno if I'd call it unique myself, it's mostly just a hommage to Bach arias, sarabandes etc. ;)

My favorite Halloween submission so far this year!

I love the instrumentation, and the dynamics of this piece are truly something to be proud of! :D

all of these instruments sound brilliant, and as a whole; I could seriously imagine this backing a hit series for Halloween time! This song is very reminiscent of Danny Elfman's work in both Nightmare Before Christmas/ Batman, and I realllllly dig it!
You've created quite the masterpiece here my friend, and I honestly don't know if there's much I would change about this; Amazing :)

SilentTakedown responds:

I'm glad you like it. And you're like the fourth or fifth person to mention Elfman and Nightmare Before Christmas and I never really watched it. I was more thinking about John Williams at some point when I made the minor triad parallels with the flutes and glockenspiel at the beginning. Thanks again for the kind words and this review! :)

(Don't hit me but I also have not watched the first Batman movie. But I know the maintheme!)

Well I get what you are going for!

But those bass-lines need wayyy more sub-bass, and that drum track needs to be a bit more complicated then that. This tune sounds like it could be a really club banger, but at the same time; this render sounds like a bare skeleton of the track.

I really liked your dynamic work, and most of your patterns were spot on, but I think you need to take more time to work on your fine tuning

Things I would have done differently:
- Moar sub-bass
- Moar mastering/ mixing
- Moar drum kit work
- A LOT more sidechaining

Overall; Solid Effort!

Thanks, Sonik! :) I'll be sure to take those things into account. Great review! :D

Happy Hardcore! :D

This song is great, and reminds me of an older time :)

This tune seems like a perfect throwback to artists like Dj Hixxy, Darren Styles, and Breeze!

I loved the drum track, and the build-up/ fall automation were very well done! I also loved your choice in instruments, very nice. The overall mixing/ mastering was good, and the bass-line; although old-school, still had that nice hard drive to it!

Things to look at:
- The mastering/ mixing COULD have been a tad better imo
- The drums were okay, but seemed to be a tad bit spread out sounding (try for that more Punchy sound)
- The background instruments (White noise rise & fall) were kinda repetitive.

Overall though; awesome work dude!

LUK4IS responds:

Thank you!

Yeah I still need work with mastering, but I'm gettin better with time =]
and I threw the swoops in at last minute with haste, which I probably shouldn't have done... I'll keep what you said in mind. Anyway, thanks for the reveiw m8!

Dope drop bro!

The build up seemed pretty unique man, something I could definitely get down to. The drop though, almost seemed like something you would hear from Haywire; Not exactly dubstep, not exactly jazz, but something created from both :p

I really dug this tune, and I honestly can't wait to hear more from ya' you've made a fan out of me! :D

Things I would take a second look at:
- That mixing on your bass samples seems a bit odd?
- The drums were good but could have used a bit more "in-between" percussion for the drop imo

Overall though; Pretty sick dude :D

HyperTrough responds:

Thanks mate! ;D
Your stuff is pretty awesome btw :D

Nice and clean

Reminds me of something that you would hear from Adam K & Soha or even Deadmau5 back in the day :)

I really enjoyed the very progressive-house elements, and soft instrumentation; very smooth on the ears.
The drum track was really impressive, and I loved how full of energy your drop sounds :). I really love a lot of what you did with this song; a lot of these melodies remind me of video game stuff :D

Things to look at:
- The Mixing mastering could use a bit of work/ boosting
- I would have liked to hear more effects/ delay samples in this song

Overall though; really impressive piece! :D

RetromanOMG responds:

You know, I took that Adam K and Soha thing as a recommendation, and I'm astounded by what I heard. Thanks for exposing me to this.

As for the mixing, I've never been good at that at all. I did have enough sense to go back and fix the low end on the kicks, but on the whole, I've never put much work into EQing my songs completely. I'll definitely put in that extra effort for my next song, whatever it may be.

Thanks for the review.

UNfinished :C

although I can see what you are going for, this song is kinda repetitive.
I liked the idea of starting out with a low pass filter, but you ended up bogging the rest of your track down way to much by filtering your master track :(
I really expected more out of this track based off of the intro, but the leads never seemed to rise up into full dominance, and the drum track didn't seem to be very"driving" at all :(

Things to look at:
- Trance/ Dance requires a strong bass-line, and driving beats; be careful when you filter your drums not to hide them from the listener :L
- If you are going to filter things, make sure that they get a chance to rise above everything else.

Overall this track is okay, but needs some work

Haha. I didn't actually LIKE this song enough to want to finish it or take it too seriously.
