Would love to remix this :)

I loved the groove behind this song, very chill, very cool, and very relaxing.
What I see here is the back-bone of a sick-ass haywire style hip-hop track.
This song has got so much potential its crazy :p. you're definitely on to something amazing!

I really enjoyed the piano samples used, the vocals are awesome (just needed to be a bit clearer), The drum beat is super chill, loved the overall ambiance, and really dug the smooth note patterns as well!

This track is a monster :)

Thanks for your kind criticism!

I took a lot of time to find out what kind of feel I wanted for this song. I liked that you said it was very chill, very cool and very relaxing. I'm not sure what a "sick-ass haywire style hip-hop track" is, but you're welcome to remix it if you wish :)

Thanks for your complements on the piano, and the vocals. The vocals are basically just an experiment of me layering them on top of each other to form a certain atmosphere. I'll try to enunciate better next time. Also I need something better than a built-in mic :P

But thanks for your complements.

Wow!

As I was trying to visualize a scene for this track my eyes fell upon the description you left, and I realized you had already beat me to it ;)

This track is really cool, I could definitely see this making it into a super cool "Clue" style flash game or something like that in the flash portal! I really liked the old style orchestral samples and instrumentation you used also. The overall feel of this song was pretty much perfect for what you were going for it would seem :)

The mastering could have used some work though, and maybe you should consider "Widening your instrument placement and reverb to add a little more realistic feel to everything? :)

I Hope to hear more tracks like this from you in the future!

CheckeredZebra responds:

Not sure what you meant by "Widening your instrument placement." I'm sorry D: I do understand the reverb though. Perhaps I could add a bit of an "open room" sound to it, like you're in a large ballroom. Genius.

Perhaps I should work on dynamics, just like my other song. I bet if it started off quieter, then it would have a bigger impact later on. It'd definitely convey the sense of grandeur I'm going for.

Anyhow, thank you for the help!

UK Hardcore!!! :D

This is actually really well done! Really reminded me of older Hixxy/ Breeze stuff from the Bonkers Compilations. I was really impressed by the mastering in this piece, the drums are perfect, and the vocal sampling is AMAZING dude (Gammer Status)

I would have loved to hear a deeper bassline/ sub-bassline at the break though :( It really would have complemented the professional sounds that you've generated here methinks.

Generally speaking though, and compared to other portal submissions; this is f%#king great

Holy shit thanks! I'd love to be on a Bonkers compilation one day aswell :D Gammer! Really! Thanks man :D He's my favorite artist haha.

That's actually a good idea now that you mentioned it, I'll try that on my next track :D

Thanks :D Thank's awesome :D

Thanks for the review!

House music

This is surprisingly good :D, but definitely not trance; more like progressive house.

Now I only say this was "surprisingly" good because the intro was pretty long, and I had almost given up on the song by the time it changed up. The break was good though, and paired with the snazzy drum-kit; it kept me bobbing my head and worked the rest of the song out pretty well.

I would have done a couple things differently though ><, Bassline could have been deeper; it seemed like it stayed in a mid range for the good most of the song. Some side-chaining would probably also help as well :)

Great Effort Bro!

Thanks for the input. I'll keep in mind that long intro tid-bit for sure. I'll go back to work with this and see what I can do about the bassline and snazz it up a bit more. Thanks again!

Chill and smooth :D

This submission was pretty interesting, I really liked the general ambiance and blend of everything. The backrounds synths were very dreamy sounding and almost reminded me of a bonus zone from a Super Mario video game :P

I would have loved to hear better drum samples to complement the rest of the samples used. I also think you should focus on the reverb effects on your instruments a little more than just the delay; it kinda sounded like you had more delay on the piano than needed during the intro.

Great Effort!

Thanks for taking the time out to do this review. Much appreciated.

Lots of people are talking about the ambience, and I guess that's what I did right. I guess it does sound Super-Mario-ish :) They also say I should use better drum samples. I like the point that you brought up about the delay, more delay than needed for the piano intro. I recognise that, and I thank you for bringing that up. I will work on excessive delay in the future.

Thanks!

Sounds old-school but...

This this is reallly loud, and as your first reviewer said the backround melody is "Off-key"

However I do see what you're going for here and it's close, but maybe you should practice a little bit more before you submit your music into games?

Exposure is great, but it won't do anything for you if your songs are too loud, unmastered, or plain unmemorable.

Take some time and focus on listening to music side-by-side with yours, and try to get yours closer to a professional sound that you like. Download a couple of your old favorite Video-Game OST's and get inspired!

This has potential, but it definitely needs work ><

DahDoctow responds:

Yeah, I agree...

I'm terrible at getting the exact sound I want :C

Cool song! but...

It could use some major improvement in a few areas.

The Good:
- Cool Melodies
- Great Composition/ Instrumentation
- Definitely sounds like a battle theme (Kingdom Hearts much?)

- Your drums need some attention!
(Mixing/Eq-Wise)
- The instruments here are generally right, but they sound very low quality (like an N64 or PS1 Game)
- Work on your dynamics!

~Dj Sonik

CheckeredZebra responds:

Dynamics...definitely agree there. Not much I can do about the low quality sounds though D':

I'll DEFINITELY get around to adding some more contrast in the sound volume and overall accents on the notes. I'll probably have to exaggerate on the software lol.

Very helpful =D Thank you!

Agrees with SCTE3

Very reminiscent of Pirates of the Caribbean :)
I loved the overall feel of this song, and it could easily fit into a flash animation or game!

I could see an epic ship battle with this music in the backround; storms overhead Crackle and Roar as the scene below rages on. Two captains stand with swords drawn, and the battle for honor ensues :D.

Great Work!

Cool Dungeon Theme!

This is sweet :D
Reminds me of a dark dungeon theme from Fable or something like that.
The whispers add a very cool sense of realism to the the track as well; makes you feel like you're actually moving through a huge gathering of spirits :)
creepy, cool, and simply incredible :)

Make more like this :)

SkyeWint responds:

Simply made for a friend. I'll probably be making more creepy music, I enjoy it. it has a cool feel. The whispers were a touch I had added because the person who requested this wanted an eerie background noise along with the main part of the track.

It's not my best song though, for sure. I hope to make better music than this in the future, especially mixed better. I hope to get some headphones soon, so... yeah. Better mixes to come (I hope).

Pretty awesome effort!

I loved the side-chaining and the break away from it at 0:45, and I also really liked the radio filter break @ 1:15!

There were a few little things that could really use improvement here though.

-Your drum kit sounds kinda smooshed, and your bass needs a couple more layers.
-You should definitely go through and individually eq all of your instruments
-check the timing on the sidechaining at 1:00 (Sounds like you have a 3xosc getting chopped way too hard in the backround)

This song could be awesome, just do a little house-keeping around your project file!

~Dj Sonik

DdyCat responds:

Thanks, that break at 0:45 is my fav part too. I will work more on my EQing, but to be honest i hardly know anything about music theory, i just go with what sounds good.

And those weren't my best choice of drums for this song, but i got tired of looking so i just went with those.

Also that 3x osc synth only sounds like that cause it has a gated type effect going on.

Thank you for the review and i will most def work on the things mentioned and clean up my future tracks.
