kind of reminds me of old VG music

but god is this pitchy/ clippy Dx

Phobotech has a good point 29 seconds in killed my ears, and this is not trance; more like Video game/ Misc

I can see what you were going for here, and you're not far off from a good bonus stage tune or something like that for a videogame.

Things to take a second look at;
- Those pitchy parts need work (master/ eq away my friend)
- the melodies in this are okay, but kind of repetitive at points x.x
- The drums samples used here sound pretty fake/ midi-ish

overall not bad, but could use some fine tuning

ochrence responds:

The harshness of :29 and pitchy parts can be easily fixed - I didn't really pay much mind to mixing/mastering as of yet. As can the melodies and drum samples - though it's hard to get better samples than those from a 707 and 909. Maybe I should have just equalized them better. I'm glad that you didn't think it was My Little Pony on acid.
Thanks for the review!

Edit: Changed the genre because I agree with you that it's more video game than trance. Especially in the first part.

Sick! Reminds me of Feed Me!

I really loved how much effort you put into the drop on this one bro seriously awesome stuff! The orginization of this song SCREAMS John Gooch, and I'm seriously impressed broski!

Things to take a second look at:
- As much as I love the orginization of this track, the sample quality is so-so; I would love to hear this re-done with some serisouly beast-ass instruments
- this drop has a striking resemblance to Blood Red by Feed Me, Coincidence?
- The drums could use some much moreee dude! I would really love to hear you beef these samples up as well

Seriously great composition!

BulimicLemur responds:

Yes, John Gooch is my idol eh. Definitely my favourite producer and biggest influence.

I agree, after it was finished I noticed the drum sounds didn't seem too punchy but I'm not sure how to achieve that really. I did what I usually do- just layer one or two kicks or snares then EQ them so one's the highs and one's the lows. What would you suggest doing with the drums to make it sound more "beefy"? Since making this I got told to keep my instruments a way lower volume up til mastering, so that would've helped to get the volumes right- which might have made the drums seem more punchy, but except for that I'm sort of clueless about any surefire way of getting "BEEF".

Also maybe mastering might've made the drums -and the rest of the track- seem a bit more punchy? I'm not sure about any way of properly mastering songs though. My mastering has basically just been some subtle multiband compression and EQ, and making sure the volume's as loud as it can be, but once again, I don't really know what I'm doing haha.

Thanks for the review anyway man. I listened to, reviewed, and downloaded your DeadMau5 style song- AWESOME.

PM me if you want to respond to the questions I asked you.
Cheeeeers, awesome review.

not bad dude :]

Although it would have been nice to hear more accompaniment from other instruments; this is nice, and you got the point across.

Some parts are great, and other parts kinda just fall to pieces; don't get me wrong this is a great starting point, but when you know something sound off in the recording... it's always worth it to go back and fix it.

It's really great to hear someone submitting ACTUAL material that they played on an instrument, as that is somewhat of a rarity nowadays so I can't fault you here.

Overall, great effort bro; keep at it!

UltimateCJ64 responds:

Thanks dude. Other instruments you say? Well, Firefreezer and I are working on a remake of this. I'm just doing the rhythm guitar and drums, he's doing a lead guitar and piano and bass.

Again, keep in mind this was way early, I practically just got started on guitar, both tracks were done in several takes, still newb-like, so I just said, "screw it, this is probably gonna be the best it will be for a week" and left it as-is. The way I'm playing it now (several weeks later) is at least 10x better.

Thanks for the review, dude! And I'll keep practicing.

Skilled in the way of ambience

I love the slow yet driving beat, and beautiful leads used in this song!
The samples with heavy saturation/ delay make this piece sound hollow, and sorrowful; while on the other side of the spectrum I can hear the very soft and Peaceful additions as well.

It seems to me like you accomplished the exact influential mix that you were going for, and you did it well at that

Incredible work my friend!

Rinileki14 responds:

Thanks a lot man!!! Actually, With all due respect, I didn't use samples and I didn't use delay for this song. Every part of this song was intentionally written out as you hear it. Thank you! I appreciate it!

Chill as fck

Love the beat to this song; chill, smooth, and kinda reminds me of the 90's (Thank You by Dido would go perfectly with this song :] )

The vocals are a nice touch, and I really like how well they flow with this song (your style kinda reminds me of Shing02 from the Samurai Champloo soundtrack)

Things to take a second look at
- The beat seems like its a bit low behind your vox, and It would have been nice to hear it brought forth a bit more

Overall, sick shit dude :]

nice nice :]

Your build up in this song was rather long, but rather notable as well; I really liked how you slowly brought many different layers to the surface over time very classic-trancy. The piano lead that built up to the drop was nice, and DURING the drop i think you had the right idea but I would have changed a few things here.

Things to look at:
- Your build up is good, but too long; not many people are gonna stick around 3 minutes for a drop (if they do it better be god like)
- Dynamically this was a bit confusing, and by the time the drop actually came around it kinda caught me off guard in a bad way :[
- Your drop is in need of some post-composition mastering bro; This part could be sick, but your samples sound a bit mushed, and clippy... give them room to breathe!

Overall great effort, just give it a bit more!

Adjeye responds:

I see wat you mean here, but you need to take in considering that this track is even too short. It is progressive after all.

But you're right, I should have made more drops and improve my mastering skills,
(I am not the best in that:P).

Thanks for the list man :).

Glitchy, Hard, and Rediculous!

This is a pretty beastly song :]

I love how you managed to mash-up the newer dub-filthy sounds, with and almost happy-hardcore beat; this track reminded me of my man Scott Brown from the old bonkers compilations! SICK!

The driving beats, and repetitive melodies in this song were definitely enough to get my head bobbing, and I could see this song going offfff in a club...
my biggest complaint though...
It ended right when it was getting good :[

Things to look at:
- Make it longer :]

Overall; BEAST MODE!

( Thanks for the recent review brodie, you rock! :] )

Dj-GST responds:

Scott Brown :D I was just listening to a couple of his tracks, dudes amazing!

Haha yeah, I kind of ran out of ways to expand it, but I've gotten some great ideas from all these reviews :D

I will for sure!

No problem bro, you got some wicked tracks :D

3S

Not bad :D

I really like the beat of this tune, and the drums don't sound half bad. I like the way everything is organized in this track as well, it sounds like you've got your drops all lined up properly :]

Things to look at:
- I think when people told you change it up, they meant melodically; the beats are right on, but your chord progressions are pretty repetitive here.
- I would definitely focus on the mastering of your tracks a lot more, what you have here is a good blueprint; you need to make sure that your drums have enough force and clarity to match up to "hip-hop industry standards" if you really want to get noticed!

Overall not bad, but could use a couple adjustments

Interesting :p

Right off the bat this song hits me as a funky-psychedelic acid trip of a song; I can dig it :]

The patterns in this sound a bit off, but still stay refined in a good way (its kinda hard to explain i guess), and I could see where this song has a lot of potential.

Things to take a seconds look at:
- Although I did like the kind of akward/ progressive feel of your note progressions, I would have liked to hear a bit more solid chords.
- It may just be out of personal preference (but I think it would be bad ass if you brought in a sick (flying lotus style) drum beat about half way through

I don't think this song is bad by any meand, but it is a bit rough around the edges

Really beautiful piano melodies

Your blend of instruments sound very nice here, and I really liked the rain/ subtle strings all around; very nice touch. This composition reminds me very much of a classical piano piece; I think you got exactly what you were shooting for.
(this kinda reminds me of some of the minecraft music composed by C418)

Things to take a seconds look at:
- Your lead piano sample sounds a bit Dry, and needs a bit of reverb I think.
- No drums? I would have liked to hear even minimal percussion somewhere in this song :[

Overall not bad, but still a bit rough around the edges
