Pretty interesting take on dub :p

I really enjoyed the instrumentation here, and the cleanliness of the samples was definitely a massive plus. The drum kit you've chosen sounds very nice, and almost marching-band-ish.

This song itself is wonderfully composed, but in no way do I even closely relate this to Dubstep (Acid included, or not). This sounds like it would fit into a video game or flash movie pretty easily though! This song is very different, but I don't think that makes it bad at all :P.

Great work buddy!

Rampant responds:

Thanks - the strings are LA Scoring Strings and the drums are a one-two punch combo of EastWest's Symphonic Orchestra (one of the snares patches) and Native Instruments' Abbey Road 60's Drums.

This was my first foray into electronic elements, so I'm not really surprised if it doesn't sound much like dubstep, but I do hope that a flash author will find a use for it somehow in one of his or her movies or games.

Thanks for the review,

An Ambient Masterpiece

I love the way you organized this track!

I. Signs of Life (0:00 - 1:36)
Mellow, and really clean sounding; I love the ambiance you've created here.
The crushed drum kit is a great touch, and I really enjoyed the light drum samples coated with heavy delay. Everything here sounds incredibly solid, and I really enjoyed the clarity of this whole section; very professional sounding work bro.
II. Excitement (1:36 - 2:24)
Everything continues to sound very crisp, while gaining a new energy.
This break is nice, and seems to give you glimpse of what's to come.
The leads, drums, and strings all sound very nice here; very chill :)
the transition approaches, and the dynamics fall back incredibly well.
I really love how flowy the transitions are from part to part.
III. Preparations (2:24 - 4:48)
Everything seems to fall back, and your left in suspense for a good minute (not in a bad way). I loved the way the subtle strings arose from the ambiance, and again dynamically begin to climb. The string samples in this are absolutely brilliant! The drums also still sound very nice. :p
IV. The Great Cruise (4:48 - 6:36)
This part is wonderfully described by it's title; once the drums drop away, you're almost swept away by the mixture of ambient sounds. Incredible
V. We Come In Peace (6:36 - 10:48)
Interesting break away you've taken here; this song is anything but predictable.
This ending soundscape reminded me a lot of something that you would hear on a Mars Volta album between tracks; Wow dude... just amazing :,D
Probably one of the best ambient tracks to ever hit this portal.

Overall; Incredible

I feel pretty honored to have such long, detailed reviews for this tiny shard of atmosphere. I actually have nothing else to add for your review, so I will "just" say a big, sincere "Thank you" for your time and dedication.

Nice!

I really enjoyed this piece, the soft instrumentation and drum samples really blend well. I love the melodies here, very soothing and upbeat. Your balance and mastering sound very good, and I was really delighted to not hear a single bit of business or clipping. However the sample a 3:15 was a little awkward sounding to me at first though :(

I could definitely see this going into a video-game or flash submission here on NG. All of the melodies present in this piece, evoke a whole range of emotions from Bittersweet nostalgia to Victorious triumph! This song reminds me of games like Ristar for the Sega Genesis. I really enjoyed this piece, and can't wait to hear your next one!

Great Work!

Sawdust responds:

Haha thanks man!

Also, I regret to inform you that this piece actually stands out as a bit odd amongst my other ones. This is probably the only song I have wherein the drums are not overtly loud haha/

Anyway, I'm glad you liked it, and I'll definitely send a request once I upload a new song!

Reminds me of something you would hear on [AS]

In the weirdest way, this totally reminded me of something that you would see between shows on late night [Adult Swim]. I liked how this piece sounded abstract yet organized at the same time. The drums were very interesting in particular; I really liked the break-beat sounds as well (very flowy and different sounding).

Couple things about this I would have done differently though:
- Some of the samples seem to clip a little bit (watch your volume and EQ levels)
- I really expected a much heavier break-beat drop, and was slightly thrown off by the more simple turn that you took @ 2:27 (sounds like you started making a build-up, and just worked on without finishing.

Overall; Pretty Impressive work

PsycheOasis responds:

Thankyou. :D Yea, I do have a bad time at building things up masterfully. Sometimes I get lucky to where the all the sounds come together very well, other times.. I fail so hardcore.. XD

Not sure I'm farmiliar with the original but...

This sounds great!

Like all of your orchestral pieces that I've had the privilege to listen to, This sounds beautiful. The leads are all very well mixed, and the dynamics of this piece really give it an epic "Marching-Band-Like" flow. The Percussion sounds very nice, but I would have liked to hear a little more percussive expression from you in this one (aside from snare, crash, bass, and chimes). Maybe some vibes or something like that could add some brilliance to the softer parts of this song. I love the String/ Woodwind work btw, very very nice.

Overall, Another masterpiece from TheBellMaker

Thanks for the review!

I was never good with percussion -__- I'll definitely try and work on that in the future.

Love the piano work bro!

This piano piece is pretty epic, but does this really qualify as jazz? I was actually really excited to see a jazz review request at first :p (They are obviously pretty rare)

The piano melody that you have composed sounds great, and I found this really entertaining.

The piano in this could use a lot of work on the mastering side of things; I don't think anything could make this sound more beautiful than a great piano VST, and some eq/ reverb tweeks. I really would have loved to hear a piano sound with a little more professional quality to match up with the quality of composition ya know?

Although this sounds really sad in some respects, it also sounds triumphant. Hopefully this signifies that your furry friend had a long happy life.

Sorry to hear about your loss bud, Great composition though!

Sweet like berries

I really liked the build up you've put together here. The drums sound pretty good for the most part, and side-chain the leads pretty well when needed. What I noticed most with this submission is that it has many good Drum-and-Bass-Qualities, but certain parts are lacking a lot in comparison to the Acid-bass part that you've produced.

You could probably make this a lot better if you change some of these things:

- The drums need percussive backup badly (sounds kinda fake the way they are)
- The leads that first come in are pretty annoying, and not equalized very well (if at all)
- A good portion of your drum kit is being drowned out by the Too-loud lead
- The volume of this song actually drops @ 2:10
- These samples all need to be equalized and mastered better

Great Effort

Thanks :)

Zomg this is pretty close to perfect! x3

I love the vocal work, and the perfect hardstyle build-up. The Euphoric-Hardstyle idea was a very interesting one, and I like how you pulled it off. The composition of this piece is wonderful, and actually very well done (you obviously have some very good hardstyle influences). I also really liked how you switched back and forth between the hip-hop beat and the hard-style beat.

I didn't so much love the bass though, and that's a huge factor when it comes to writing hardstyle. I also would have liked to hear a slightly better job in mastering of your lead and bass samples.

Overall; this has a fck-ton of potential, just work with it a bit more.

Cool groove. Weird name.

The intro is cool, and I definitely dig the drums in this piece. The leads all sound really nice, and very clear. I also really liked the mastering in this piece, very crisp sounding high end in this one forsure.

I would definitely take a second look at a couple things though.
The bass in this is kinda weak, and doesn't really have any wubwubwub to it. I would have loved to hear more additions (percs and such) to the drum break. The intro was kinda empty sounding, and almost lost my interest right before the break. This could really use more build up, and more energy after the break...

Overall; I think you might be onto something here... just work at it a little longer

Cool beans

I liked the basic idea of this, and in some respects it even reminded me of something that Infected Mushroom would have written a few years ago. The melodies are pretty good, but in some places sound slightly randomized. The beats in this were also pretty cool, and I liked how you changed it up.

The lead in the beginning sounds a bit "preset" like, and a couple other background samples do as well. I don't really see how this fits into the "trance" category, I actually think this is more of a "techno" song. Dude I don't want to sound mean, but the guitar work in this...It's bad. I definitely recommend doing a couple more takes, working on the timing, and mastering it into the mix better

Overall: Nice Effort!

BAZmotherfucker responds:

I was going for psytrance, which in many ways is like acid techno. Infected Mushroom is exactly what I was thinking of when I made this x] as for the guitar takes... I was a bit drunk when i wrote and recorded them. Edit: updating it with some cleaner takes ;]
